It's finally here.  No, not the Google Books Fairness Hearing (although
that is too).  It's our first reading group at the Benjamin N. Cardozo
School of Law!  Please RSVP, if you haven't already.

NYCINFOLAW NEWS

[NYCINFOLAW] READING GROUP: A CLOUDY FUTURE FOR ITUNES?
          FEBRUARY 16, 2010 @ 7PM
ROOM 424, CARDOZO LAW SCHOOL, 55 FIFTH AVE (AT 12TH ST)
A Cloudy Future for iTunes? What Apple’s acquisition of
Lala.com might mean for cloud-based computing. Recently Apple
purchased Lala.com – the cloud-centric music download, stream, and
preview site. Some cynics believe they are ridding the market of a
competitor, but insiders say the company is making a play at putting
their Itunes music store at the forefront of cloud-based computing. A
lot has happened in the last ten years since MP3.com was sunk by the
RIAA for attempting such an approach. While people have been
contemplating the Celestial Jukebox for quite a while, with Apple
entering the picture, the future may have just gotten cloudy. Food
will be served. RSVP to cardozoIPLS at gmail.com.  RSVP not required
          to attend. All are welcome.

As everyone is no doubt aware, Google and the Plaintiffs
in the Google Books Case have reached a settlement.  This is the

should visit the court's website for security information.  In
addition, there are rumors that the courtroom will change, so keep an
eye on our calendar or give the clerk's office a call.

NYCInfoLaw began as a joint project between the Columbia Law School
Society for Law, Science and Technology and the NYU Law School InfoLaw
Student Association. Today, its membership includes similar groups
from nearly all NYC schools dedicated to the intersection between
intellectual property, technology, privacy, communications, and the
law. Our website is a compendium of news and New York City events of
interest to the members of nycinfolaw.org.  If you have a calendar
item you think we should add, please contact calendar at nycinfolaw.org.
