INFORMATION LAW EVENTS
[NYCBAR] LOST & FOUND: A PRACTICAL LOOK AT ORPHAN WORKS LEGISLATION
OCTOBER 20, 2009 @ 6:00 PM
MEETING HALL, NYC BAR ASSOCIATION, 42 W. 44TH ST
How should the law treat “orphan works”? Please join us as
we discuss proposals that would enable copyrighted works to be used
when their owners cannot be located to obtain necessary permissions.
What should be the obligations of potential users with respect to
searching for copyright owners? How should infringement claims be
handled if a copyright owner emerges? Do different types of
copyrighted works present unique issues? What roles might registries
and recognition and detection technologies play? Our speakers will
address these and related questions, focusing on orphan images.

NYCInfoLaw began as a joint project between the Columbia Law School
Society for Law, Science and Technology and the NYU Law School InfoLaw
Student Association. Today, its membership includes similar groups
from nearly all NYC schools dedicated to the intersection between
intellectual property, technology, privacy, communications, and the
law. Our website is a compendium of news and New York City events of
interest to the members of nycinfolaw.org. If you have a calendar
item you think we should add, please contact calendar at nycinfolaw.org.
For general comments, e-mail contact at nycinfolaw.org.
