[READING GROUP] MANUFACTURER CONTROL OF TECHNOLOGICAL DEVICES
           OCTOBER 13, 2009 @ 7:00 PM
ROOM 940, JEROME GREENE HALL, COLUMBIA LAW SCHOOL, 435 W. 116TH ST
This reading group will focus on the growing control that
manufacturers of electronic devices retain long after those devices
have been sold to consumers. In particular, we will examine how those
controls impact technological innovation, intellectual property
rights, and your liberty. To this end we will look at the
Kindle, cell
           phones, and computers.

INFORMATION LAW EVENTS

WILLIAM PATRY ON "MORAL PANICS AND THE COPYRIGHT WARS"
           OCTOBER 12, 2009 @ 12:00 PM
ROOM 204, CARDOZO LAW SCHOOL, 55 FIFTH AVENUE
Patry is a copyright uber-expert. He has worked for the
government on copyright matters and currently handle's Google's
copyright issues (and they have a lot). Patry is also one of the few
people who have written a full treatise on Copyright. His
recent book,
which he will be giving his talk about, compares the
copyright wars to
other moral panics, like witch-hunts and communism.
           Lunch will be served.

NYCInfoLaw began as a joint project between the Columbia Law School
Society for Law, Science and Technology and the NYU Law School InfoLaw
Student Association. Today, its membership includes similar groups
from nearly all NYC schools dedicated to the intersection between
intellectual property, technology, privacy, communications, and the
law. Our website is a compendium of news and New York City events of
interest to the members of nycinfolaw.org.  If you have a calendar
item you think we should add, please contact calendar at nycinfolaw.org.
