USPTO COMMISSIONER TO DISCUSS PATENT ISSUES
NOVEMBER 24, 2009 @ 6 PM
JACOB BURNS MOOT COURT ROOM, CARDOZO LAW SCHOOL, 55 FIFTH AVE.
Commissioner for Patents at the United States Patent and
Trademark Office, Robert L. Stoll, will be coming to Cardozo to talk
about the problems the patent office is facing and how to
change it. USPTO faces challenges on many fronts. Stoll, appointed
Commissioner on October 3, 2009, will discuss the aggressive and
innovative strategies the agency is undertaking. Top
priorities are reducing patent pendency and shrinking the patent
backlog, while also improving quality. These are not new
problems, but initiatives to address these issues represent the most
aggressive strategies ever seen at the USPTO with respect to
processes, systems, human capital, and culture. In addition, the
Patent Reform Act of 2009 remains central to discussions of Agency
improvement. Stoll will discuss strategies and philosophies that he
and Under Secretary David Kappos share and their vision for the
future of the USPTO. RSVP to IPProgram at yu.edu.
