Dearest InfoLaw-ites,

Join us next Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. for the next installment of the
NYC InfoLaw Reading Group! The location is Columbia Law School, Room 417,
William and June "Big" Warren Hall, 1125 Amsterdam Ave., between 115th and
116th Streets.

Our topic for next week is the privacy of genetic information. The readings
are listed below in order of importance, so please start at the top. The
first two are the most important (and longest); the bottom 3 are optional,
but can be skimmed quickly and provide some context to the debate.

1. NY Times Article, "Insurance Fears Lead Many to Shun DNA Tests."

2. Sonia M. Suter, Disentangling Privacy from Property: Toward a Deeper
Understanding of Genetic Privacy. 72 Geo. Wash. L. Rev. 737. Excerpts are
attached as a Word Document. Also, it seems really long, but that's mostly
footnotes. The excerpt is 14 pages. This will form the bulk of the
discussion.

3. NY Times Article, "Congress Passes Bill to Bar Bias Based on Genes."

4. Oregon Administrative Rule 333-025-0140 on obtaining informed consent for
genetic testing. 1 very short page, attached.

5. The History of Genetic Privacy in Oregon.

pages, worth skimming to see an example of a legal regime to protect genetic
privacy.
