INFORMATION LAW EVENTS

EFF'S FRED VON LOHMANN PART I
          FEBRUARY 23, 2009 @ 12:00 PM
COLUMBIA LAW SCHOOL, 116TH STREET & AMSTERDAM AVE

EFF'S FRED VON LOHMANN PART II
          FEBRUARY 23, 2009 @ 6:00 PM
          LIPTON HALL, NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
Fred von Lohmann, copyfighter extraordinaire, will be
speaking at NYU at 6 pm on Monday, February 23, in Lipton Hall. His
talk is called "Public Interest Cyber-Lawyering on the Electronic
Frontier." I highly encourage you to attend - Fred is not only a
superstar in the field, he's also a very funny, engaging, and friendly
          person.

          CREATIVE COMMONS SALON
          FEBRUARY 24, 2009 @ 7:00 PM
FOR YOUR INFORMATION LOFT, 22 W. 27TH ST., 6TH FLOOR
Creative Commons Salons in NYC have been building momentum
and it is now time for our February edition. Come out to have some
beers with the CC community (don't worry, we'll open it up early this
time) watch some cool presentations, and meet some new faces in the
free culture space. Since we've outgrown our original space, The Open
Planning project, February's Salon is back at For Your Imagination's
          loft space.

February's Salon will feature presentations by Bre Pettis on
Thingiverse.com's CC integration, blip.tv's CEO Mike Hudack demoing
new features of the CC-friendly video site, and co-CEOs Dan Zaccagnino
and Matt Siegel from Indaba Music, talking about their recent work on
          Colbert v. Lessig remix shenanigans.

OWNING KNOWLEDGE: SCIENCE, HEALTH AND LAW IN AN INTEGRATED WORLD
          FEBRUARY 25, 2009 @ 6:30 PM
DAVIS AUDITORIUM, SCHAPIRO CENTER, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY,
          500 W. 120TH ST.
Registration is required. For more information, see:
          http://cgt.columbia.edu/events/owning_knowledge_science_health_and_law_in_an_integrated_world/
The panel will feature Sherry Glied, Joseph Stiglitz, John Sulston,
          Harold Varmus, and Arti Rai.

This symposium will consider the implications of the private
ownership of scientific knowledge, particularly for such critical
issues as global public health. Scientific, economic and legal
perspectives will be employed to address the ways in which
global knowledge commons can
be managed to make scientific advances once again benefit those who
most need them. Panelists will discuss how intellectual property
affects public health, and whether there are alternative ways that
public health research might be structured to make it more useful to
vulnerable populations and the developing world.
